The 2016 season is underway and it promises to be a great one. The AVP is beginning it's 33rd consecutive season of competition and the schedule spans from April to September. Geographically the Tour will cover the United States, from the Southeast (New Orleans) to the Northwest (Seattle), to the three biggest metropolitan areas (New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago) and this year added San Francisco as a new stop.
Internationally the Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro in August, an iconic setting for a sport that has grown into one of the most popular ones in both Brazil and the Summer Olympics. The race to earn a bid to the Olympics will make the FIVB Tour even more intriguing to watch and will have ramifications for the AVP Tour as well. In May the AVP hosts an international event in Cincinnati, the last chance Americans will get to pad their point totals on home sand in order to qualify for Rio.
