The AVP has held tournaments every year since 1984, and as of the end of the 2019 season the Tour has completed 562 men's events and 223 women's events. These competitions have taken place in 30 different states, plus Puerto Rico and Canada.
For the first 18 years of the AVP, the tournaments were primarily men's events, with 390 compared to just 51 women's contests. However beginning in 2002 each AVP event held has been dual gender, with the same number of men's and women's competitions held in that span. The 2019 season total of $1,800,000 in prize money was the highest since 2009 and the average money per tournament was the sixth highest ever.
As of the conclusion of the 2019 season, 78 different men have won at least one AVP title. Additionally, 34 more players have competed in an AVP final without having won, and 177 unique men's players have advanced to the semifinals on the AVP Tour.
