Tournament Notables:
- There are no teams, men's or women's, competing this weekend which have previously won in Manhattan Beach
- The men playing here that have previously earned a plaque on the pier include Tri Bourne, Trevor Crabb, Phil Dalhausser and John Hyden... the previous women's winners include Kelley Kolinske and Sarah Pavan
- Trevor Crabb is trying to win his fourth straight Manhattan Beach Open title... Mike Bright, Mike O'Hara, Mike Dodd, Tim Hovland and Karch Kiraly are the 5 players who have won at least 4 consecutive MBO titles
- This is the 17th Gold Series event since it was introduced in 2017 but no teams competing this weekend have previously won a Gold Series event
- Phil Dalhausser's first match win in Manhattan Beach will mark the 600th of his AVP career... he enters this weekend with a 599-163 (.786) match record
- The men have a total of 108 teams registered (84 in the qualifier, 24 in the main draw). This marks the 35th men’s AVP event with at least 100 teams.
- The AVP, celebrating its 40th year, has played at least one tournament in the state of California in all 40 of those years.
- This is the 35th time the AVP has played in Manhattan Beach and this will be the 25th for Kevin Cleary. He has played every year here since 2000 (no tournaments were held on any tour in 2010 and 2020). Cleary made his pro beach debut in June 1978, and only 10 players here (of the ages known) were even alive when he first played pro beach volleyball.
- The men's qualifier featured 76 matches, 13 of which went 3 sets (63 were sweeps!). In the end, the top 5 seeds, along with seeds 8, 10 and 11 all advanced.
- The women's qualifier was a bit different, as 16 of the 41 matches went to a third set. 5 of the top 9 seeds advanced, as did seeds 18, 27 and 29 (twin sisters Audrey and Nicole #32 Nourse)
- #32 Chloe Loreen / Natalie Robinson defeated #1 Betsi Flint / Julia Scoles, marking the first time in AVP history (women's) that has happened.
