Tournament Notables:
- This event will tie Chicago as the most frequented stop for women in AVP history as both Manhattan Beach and Chicago (including this upcoming tournament) have held 21 tournaments
- Chicago has held (including this upcoming event) the second most tournaments in AVP men's history (tied)... Manhattan Beach 35, this will be 33rd in Chicago, Hermosa Beach also has 33
- The 2017 winners set records on both ends of the spectrum in both genders. John Hyden (along with Theo Brunner) won the men’s title at 44 years, 10 months and 27 days old, becoming the oldest player to win an AVP event [note: he then surpassed his own record the next year in Hermosa Beach, but this was when he first broke the record], surpassing Karch Kiraly’s mark... On the women’s side, Kelly (Claes) Cheng and Sara Hughes won, becoming the youngest women’s team to win (combined age of 44 years, 6 months, 6 days), bettering the previous mark held by Betsi Flint and Kelley (Larsen) Kolinske in Mason in 2015... Cheng and Hughes combined age was less than Hyden’s
- Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss are the top seeds, which unbelievably marks the first time ever for them on the AVP Tour despite the fact that they have won 5 titles together
- Andy Benesh / Miles Partain have won both of their previous 2 AVP events together... a win in Chicago will give them 3 wins in their first 3 tournaments, something that just one other team has done (Jose Loiola / Kent Steffes in 1997)
- If any team has a home field advantage this weekend it’s Cody Caldwell / Seain Cook… Caldwell played collegiately at Loyola-Chicago and Cook just happens to be the name of the county that Chicago is in
