Tournament Notables:

• This marks the 9th straight year that there are at least 100 men's teams in the Manhattan Beach Open (starting in 2017, no event in 2020)
• Taryn Brasher / Kristen Cruz have won the title here the last 2 years... the last team to win at least 3 in a row was Misty May-Treanor / Kerri Walsh Jennings in 2005 through 2008
• This week’s AVP event features 17 players (9 men, 8 women) who have played in the Olympics (either indoors or on the beach).  Players here have competed for three different countries (USA, Canada, Italy) and have combined to win one gold medal, two silver medals and three bronze medals
• 8 wildcards into the main draw (for each gender) were awarded based on the results from this year's Contender Series events in Denver and Waupaca
• The men who have previously earned a plaque who are competing this weekend include Theo Brunner, Chase Budinger, Taylor Crabb, Trevor Crabb, Phil Dalhausser, Miles Evans and Taylor Sander.  Each of the last eight Manhattan Beach Open men’s title matches has featured at least one Crabb brother, and Phil Dalhausser has advanced to the finals here 10 times previously.  There are five women’s players competing here who already have a place on the pier (champs from the last two years Taryn Brasher and Kristen Nuss, along with Betsi Flint, Sara Hughes and Melissa Humana-Paredes).
